The Ranch
Surprise Valley Ranch is located less than two hours from Santa Fe and Taos, deep within the Santa Fe National Forest and the Pecos Wilderness Area of northern New Mexico. Guests at the ranch experience rustic comfort; life in one of the four guest cabins is a unique blend of modern amenities and Old West charm.
A Day in the Life...
The morning sun rises and wildlife awakens. Ranch hands head to the saloon for a cup of fresh brewed coffee and prepare for the day's assignments. The headwaters of the Sapello River amble past your cabin as native cutthroat trout reach toward the sky for their morning meal. Horses are groomed and saddled, fences inspected and cattle checked. The day may include vetting newborn calves, training horses or completing any of the many projects currently underway.
Guests who want to experience the details and rewards of ranch life are welcome to participate. On the other hand, guests may choose to strike out on their own.
If you are headed up the trail or into the woods, remember to log in at the office so that we know where you are headed. This is a remote area, and we take care of each other.
However you choose to spend your day, you'll want to keep your camera or sketch pad handy: bear, deer, elk and mountain lion all frequent the area.
We invite you to schedule a visit to the ranch so that we may offer you a firsthand opportunity to view the extraordinary opportunities for professional training and vacations that await you, your family and your horse.
