Dogs
Don't leave Fido or Fluffy in a kennel...bring them with you! Surprise Valley Ranch welcomes all well mannered dogs.
Each dog is $5/day
- All domestic pets must be accompanied by a Certificate of Health, including documentaion of current rabies vaccination.
- Dogs must be well mannered, and we ask they be kept away from the barn and any of our resident horses.
- Please be aware that there are a half dozen dogs and several cats who make their permanent home at the ranch, and they may be anywhere at anytime. If your animals are not friendly with other dogs or cats, please keep them in your cabin or on a leash at all times.
- If your dog is friendly and under good voice command, it may be off leash at the ranch. However, because we are surrounded by millions of acres of wilderness containing an assortment of wild animals, we strongly recommend that dogs be kept on a long lead while outside.
- Dogs are not permitted in the Saloon or main barn / pasture areas.
Horses (Mules, too!)
There aren't many places where you can vacation alongside your horse. Surprise Valley Ranch is one of the few horse-friendly guest ranches in the region. Your horse will have a private paddock immediately outside your cabin, with an adjoining pasture. Take your horse with you and plan on attending some of our premiere horse training programs together. Then, off you go for long days on the mountain trails! It will be the vacation of a lifetime for both you and your favorite equine.
Each horse or mule is $25/ day while you are staying at the ranch
Horses and mules arriving at Surprise Valley Ranch for any reason are required to have an up-to-date Certificate of Health with current photo and description of identifying marks from a licensed veterinarian. The certificate must include the results of a current negative Coggins test and vaccination history, and certify that the animal is free of communicable diseases.
Horse Board & Training
Once you attend a program or two at the ranch, you'll understand the magic our resident horse whisperer can work with every horse he meets. (And yes, when he's not training professional police or Search & Rescue horses, one of his specialties is working with "problem" horses written off by others as untrainable!)
$1200/month per horse or mule
- Includes pasture board and hay
- You provide any grain/supplements, and we'll feed according to your schedule
- Daily training sessions six days/week
- Minimum five hours of training/week
- Owner involvement strongly encouraged
